Umpires are always getting a bad rap to me. Sure, they may blow a call or two. But how many of us out there are perfect. Last time anyone checked -nobody. If you think you can do better, try umpiring for yourself. It will more than likely be harder than you think. Whether it is little league or a high school game, you try making perfect calls on every pitch. It may look easy on the TV but it is not in real life. Training or not, there will still be mistakes, and if you think about it that is just a part of the game. So what do you think? Do you have what it takes to get out there and do it yourself?

HUH, are you kidding me, I would assume this is what most of you are thinking when you read the title of this blog! Seriously though, what is the deal? why do they get so much flack? Behind the pate, for both teams the umpire will judge over 300 pitches a night. Let’s see you do that and get most of them if not all of them right.

To me I think it has been quite a show to see coaches run out of the dug out screaming, kicking and whining over a call at the plate. Last time I checked when they make a mistake coaching, fans don’t get to run out on the field and do the same to them

I have played baseball all my life and even umpired a few amateur games. It is hard! It takes a good eye and precision to know here the pitch ends up in reference to the ground and the basic over all strike zone.

So please, enough with the shows on the field and off. This is not wrestling, it’s baseball!

Take it from me, I have thrown thousands of pitches, and it never did me one bit of good to complain about what I did wrong. I actually learned to have my catcher ask what was wrong the pitch, adjust and move on!
