The Owners Meet

The owners of the MLB teams do more than write checks and own teams. Sometimes in their meetings they can literally discuss just about everything, from games running too long, the pluses and minuses of extra innings, to the economy. Well this year’s meetings seem to be focused on just that. The economy has been the talk in lots of business sectors. Why is the economy such a big deal with the MLB owners. Let’s just say that I wouldn’t hold your breath if you think that the players salaries are going to come down.

The biggest thing fans may want to know out of these meetings is that the teams will lower ticket prices. Now for some teams, the ones with new stadiums, this may not be the case. But it appears most teams may consider lowering ticket prices some to help draw in more fans next season.

There are lots of people in this country that love baseball. There are also lots of people out there that do not have the extra money to attend games. The best possible solution may be to lower prices or offer some special discount nights to games that tend to get lower attendances.

Let The Trading Begin

Head to any news site, type in something like ‘MLB trades’ and you will see tons of articles come up like this one discussing the possibility of some big off season trades. Trading is a huge part of the off season, and the die hard fans out there know their favorite player or favorite team will more than likely be affected by these deals. Some teams get dismantled pretty hard. It even happens to World Series championship teams. Even the number one team in the MLB can decide to take apart their team hoping to build a better one for future season.

We have seen some championship teams do this and fall to almost dead last in the league the next season. Seems silly, doesn’t it? To that team at the time they feel they are doing the right thing by building on the future. A lot of trades also depend on who has a contract due to expire as well.

So if you want to know what is happening to your team, you’d better head out on the internet and search it out. More than likely the home team in your area will look much different next year. So be prepared for the highs and lows of the trading season!
