Let The Trading Begin

Posted on: November 11, 2009 by No Comments

Head to any news site, type in something like ‘MLB trades’ and you will see tons of articles come up discussing the possibility of some big off season trades. Trading is a huge part of the off season, and the die hard fans out there know their favorite player or favorite team will more than likely be affected by these deals. Some teams get dismantled pretty hard. It even happens to World Series championship teams. Even the number one team in the MLB can decide to take apart their team hoping to build a better one for future season.

We have seen some championship teams do this and fall to almost dead last in the league the next season. Seems silly, doesn’t it? To that team at the time they feel they are doing the right thing by building on the future. A lot of trades also depend on who has a contract due to expire as well.

So if you want to know what is happening to your team, you’d better head out on the internet and search it out. More than likely the home team in your area will look much different next year. So be prepared for the highs and lows of the trading season!

Ballpark Food

Posted on: October 5, 2009 by No Comments

Besides the game itself, the best thing at the ballpark is by far the food. The smells overwhelm you as you walk through the tunnel from the grand stand into the food court area. The wind whips the smells around the area mixing them into a culinary delight for the nose. But what to buy or choose? I mean, this food can cost a pretty penny. The players you love to watch so much have fat salaries, hence the fat food prices. I do have to admit on a side note, I love that people actually seem shocked when they see the prices of the foods. Sure there are a few out there that have never been to game or just have no clue, but most of us know, so get over it and pick wisely.

For me the all time favorite is the ballpark nachos! Lots of jalapeños on mine and a Coke. But that was just a starter, next we need a hotlink. Sorry ballpark hotdogs can be good, but give me a bratwurst or a hot link over one any day of the week with lots of mustard. Now if your stomach has survived this onslaught, next grab a box of popcorn or peanuts and a mini batting helmet full of ice cream.

So what does all this get you? -A 30$ debt on your ATM card and a stomach who is probably not very happy with you. No matter what, have fun and enjoy!

The Designated Hitter

Posted on: October 2, 2009 by No Comments

Now for those of you out there that hate the designated hitter, try and relax a little bit, breathe, breathe – there you go.

I do not get why the American League chooses to stick with the designated hitter. I figured once inter league play started- just maybe they would do without it. Well that didn’t happen.

What may be even crazier though are people out there that will actually stop watching baseball just because of this one detail. Really, a sport you love, yet you will protest watching it just because of a rule you don’t agree with. There are a lot of things people may not like about baseball- like the games are too long or the fact that more and more players seemed to be doped up.

Get past those dislikes and sit back and enjoy. Once the designated hitter comes to the plate, change the channel for a bit. Enjoy the game for all the other great qualities it has. There should be a ton more likes than dislikes anyway. So write the MLB commissioner a letter telling him why you hate what you do, and move on. Do it kindly also. Remember baseball can be a great sport to follow, even if you are a Yankee fan!
