MLB Games On The Radio

Posted on: April 10, 2010 by No Comments

As the years roll on, people less than they ever have will listen to a baseball game on the radio. Back in the days of no TV though, that is how thousands and the majority of fans heard the games.

If you have ever heard one of these old broadcasts, they can be quite enjoyable to listen to. The excitement that surrounds the game as played out on the radio was really quite amazing. They were very different than the way games are broadcasted now.

Listening to a game can still be better than missing it all together though. Of course people today have TV’s on their phones, in their cars, and just about any place they can put one.

Players off the Field

Posted on: March 26, 2010 by No Comments

Off the field lives can really end up in the press more often than on the field lives when it comes to some players. Why is it that some players just seem to be in the habit of showing up front page of the news with some big off the field moment. Without naming names of course, players tend to be watched carefully by the media for starters. Once they do something that seems a little off, the press is all over it. If that event were to happen to most people nobody would care. But because these guys are in the news and sports celebrities, they tend to get a ton of attention.

They key for players really seems in balancing their off the field life with their on the field life. The season is very long and there is tons of time there for the two to clash at times. For most fans it is distracting. These guys get paid a ton of money and for fans they expect them to carry their team to the championship. There can be nothing worse for a team to have an odd man out when it comes to trouble. The more gelled a team is the better chance they have in winning.

MLB Injuries

Posted on: February 28, 2010 by No Comments

The MLB has its share of injuries and issues. It may not be a full contact sport, but players tend to get knocked around quite a bit either way. Pitchers end up at some point with arm or shoulder injuries due to throwing so many pitches and just wearing their arms out. Catchers tend to get knee problems from squatting behind the pate for so many games and so many pitches. Infielders and outfielders can tend to stay much healthier than most. If they do experience some arm issues, they can usually shake them off. They do not throw near as many balls around as the pitcher. Batting can be painful at times to some players. Some have been hit extremely hard by wayward pitches. These can sometimes put a player out for some time. There is only so much safety gear a ball player can use. If they are over suited up, they could not run nearly as fast and be as flexible as they need to be.

With time and experience though, injuries can be greatly reduced. Children for example that have played much must be careful before stepping out onto a real ball field when balls are being hit and thrown around at will.

Violence and the MLB

Many baseball fans are also fans of more contact style sports. These may include football, hockey, boxing, mixed martial arts, or even rugby. One must admit though that there is something nice about baseball being played in quite the opposite way. Nobody likes watching golf because the golfers spend time beating up on one another. They like the sport for what it is, as more of a gentlemanly approach to sports.

For many, baseball is really the same way. Sure, it has quite a bit more action than golf. And yes, you may see some outfielders plow into each other running after a pop fly. And of course there are some fans out there that like to watch a batter that has been dinged by a pitch rush the mound. Many people will remember Nolan Ryan putting Robin Ventura in a head lock and beating him when he was rushed. Take all of this from the game though and baseball is still great. There is no need for batters being hit or seeing them rush the mound.

So what is your take on it? It may all be a part of the game, but for lots of fans out there it is a part of the game we can certainly do without.
