Some teams really struggle with the way they spend team money on acquiring players. For example, at times it can be easy to say that a team should spend big money on a top pitcher. The problem will not end up with the pitcher but with the rest of the team and backing him up. First they need a great catcher to fill the job in catching for him. Next they need to field a team that can play as error free as possible. And if there are not enough good and solid hitters on the team then they could really be wasting their money all together. That is why some teams decide to pass on certain trade deals. Sure, who would not want to spend the money on the best players in the game? But all too often teams have found themselves with a very unbalanced team, leaving one side strong and the other struggling. This can spell disaster for teams when it comes to money and attendance. The lack of wins will keep fans away. Fans staying away mean less money to the team.

So just because to us it may seem like there are obvious decisions, it does not necessarily mean those decisions are the best and so easy to make. We say leave it to the experts.

It just came out in the news that the average salary of an MLB baseball player is about 3 million. Can you imagine some of these guys who can barely hit near a .200 average getting paid 3 million or more, -yikes. The Yankees, world champs of course, had an average salary of over 7.6 million. This is more than double the league average. Sure it may be hard for some to accept, but paying people millions of dollars to fail is rarely done in any other industry. Of course everyone can have a tough season now and then, but you would think at some point that part of the player’s salary would be performance based. Now there are obviously some players making near this 3 million that have gone above and beyond the average when it comes to play. More than likely they will be paid much more when their new contract comes up for negotiation.

So what do you think? Are most of the players playing worth the salaries they are being paid? How does it hurt or help the league when some teams have more than twice the money that others do? Well it sure seems like things will not be changing soon, so it looks like the huge salaries are here to stay.
