Are the days of wood bats coming to an end? For years many of us have heard that wood bats are bad for the environment. They use way too many of the world’s trees according to some. It seems that until they actually come up with a good replacement for wooden bats in the MLB, chances are they will not be going anywhere for quite some time though.

Aluminum bats or bats made from other metals can be great for college and high school leagues. These bats vary and come in many sizes and types. The argument usually is that metal style bats have too large of a sweet spot. This sweet spot can cause the ball to come off the bat at intense speeds. With a wooden bat the sweet spot is much smaller. A good hitter must try to ensure he hits the ball in that area.

The fear in the MLB with metal style bats is that they can cause injury. There are worries that players could be in danger of getting hurt. The ball can come off this style of bat much faster and harder than with a wooden bat due to that sweet spot.

So for now wooden bats are in.
