The Sweep

With the 2009 MLB playoffs well under way, in the AL alone two teams were swept. The Yankees swept the Twins and the Angels swept the Red Sox. Rarely during the season would these two teams have been swept. They went into the series with the bullpens loaded and ready. Unfortunately it was not enough to even muster up 1 win. Check out this article…
I thought about it some, and really wondered how such good teams could get swept. I truly think part of it comes when they are down two games to none.
At that point they know the odds are against them for a come back. It is almost as, well, like they are trying too hard. But the biggest blow to them comes from the other dugout. When you’re up two games to none, you have momentum. It is hard to stop a team when they have that much momentum going forward with them.
Either way it is tough for the fans of the teams being swept. You get that high that your team is in. You scatter around looking for great deals on playoff tickets and hope that you’ll be at one of the World Series games only to have your team blown away in three games. Oh well, there is always next year.
