How many pitchers in the MLB are capable of throwing 100mph or more? There are very few. In fact, many of these pitchers do not last as long as the ones that do not throw quite as hard. Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson were certainly the ones that could throw hard and played in the league many years doing so. Though pitchers like Greg Maddux pitched with a much weaker fast ball, yet he was still a great pitcher that lasted in the league many years.

There are some kids out there in the minors and in college, even high school that can throw 100 mph or more. These kids will no doubt be very high draft choices when the time comes next June. The key will be whether or not their arms were meant for that speed. Can they hold out until next June throwing the ball at such great speeds? Only time will tell, but certainly there are few in the league that can top 100 mph. Newcomer Steven Strasburg can, but how will he do over the long seasons to come.
