The MLB From 2000 – 2009

Posted on: December 31, 2009 by admin No Comments

Certainly baseball has had its ups and downs in the last ten years. We have all heard enough about the steroid scandals, but what about the good that has happened to the game. The team to beat in the AL and the NL for the last ten years has to be the Yankees. They have built a major MLB empire. They have also spent more money than any team, even several combined. Even though the Red Sox won two Championships, the Yankees won more post season and regular season games during the last ten years than anyone. With the Yankees you either love them or hate them, that’s for sure. And I would not look to see them drifting into the past coming up for the next several years either.

In the Al and the NL, the Pirates were by far the worst team of the time. The Royals were a very close second though. But this last year their entire team salary was near 7 million dollars. Looks like it is time for them to find a new owner or get some new and better cheap players.

What do you look forward to for the next ten years in baseball?

How Much Ball Junk Do You Own?

Posted on: December 28, 2009 by admin No Comments

OK, so maybe to some of you out there it is not junk. Maybe to your wives or other family members it is. But how could anyone say your very first foul ball caught at an MLB baseball game is junk? Or the ticket stub you mounted on the wall from the World Series game you were fortunate enough to be able to attend, how could that be junk? For the real baseball fan these are amazing memories. These are priceless artifacts that we will keep with us for a lifetime. Sure that foul ball or tickets stub may be virtually worthless if it were placed on EBay, but to you, the holder of such treasures, these items to you should stay in the family for a lifetime.

So how many of these items do you own? Are you still making these memories or have you really gone overboard with the items you get at the games? It may not be necessary for example to keep every single souvenir program you buy at each game. Or the paper tray your very first ballpark nachos came in. This may be over doing it just a bit.

Empty Stadiums

Posted on: December 17, 2009 by admin No Comments

It can be hard at times to understand how in the world some teams are able to make money. For one, teams like the Pirates for the 2009 season had an extremely low pay wage total for all of their players. This is good however, for teams that are trying to rebuild for the future. It can also be really good considering there are many empty seats at their games. This is bound to happen on games played during the weekdays. This will also happen when teams are in a slump.

It can be really important for a team to not fall that far behind out of first place in order to drive more fans to the games. If teams are dead last, many fans that still go still want to watch some baseball being played. Others may go to see the opposing team play more than their team.

Ticket sales generate the majority of income for teams. If sales are down then revenues will be down in a major way. At times though, this is just a natural part of baseball for some teams. Sometimes they just have to rebuild and endure the losses the best they can.

A Shorter Baseball Season

Posted on: December 11, 2009 by admin No Comments

There are some baseball fans that think that the MLB seasons are just too long. The season is currently 162 games long. And when we say long we mean long. No this is not the NFL were we could expect things to end after about 20 games or so, we know the season must have some length to it. Teams need time establish themselves, make adjustments and then try to move on and head towards the goal of making the playoffs. To end earlier takes much more thought than just saying 140 games a year sound good. There is much more at stake here than just a number pulled out of thin air. You have more to think about like salaries, stadiums sitting dormant for longer periods of time. You have advertising dollars to consider, TV time and so on. The list can go on and on and someone would have to spend a ton of time crunching the numbers before any change could or will be made.

So it seems it may just be best to be happy with what you have and move on. The baseball season will more than likely change very little.
