Well, it is has been another good year for baseball in some ways, not so good in other ways. At the end of the season there are players that win some very prestigious awards. You have the rookie of the year award and the Cy Young awards for example.
So how are these awards given out? Basically there is a poll of 32 prominent baseball experts. They choose and that is that. Well, back in the 1930′s reporters were polled to decide. Why writers? Well back then not everyone had a radio and there was no TV to watch the games. So the writers were the people that knew the most about the teams and the players.
Now the process seems a little off. Only 32 people decide the big MLB awards. It is somewhere near just over 530 people that decide who makes it into the MLB hall of fame. -But only 32 or so for these awards.
It may be time for the MLB to decide on getting a new system to pick who gets the awards. There needs to be a fair and balanced system to decide these players’ fates. You never know how many players out there have bonuses riding on these deals.

If you’re a baseball fan you well know that the all star games can be a fun thing to watch. You end up watching a great home run contest and you get to see players from different teams play together once a season.
But the voting can be kind of odd. In one way, especially in the past, some of us may remember players making the teams batting say .213 for the first half of the season. Sure, they may have had a great season the year before, but it seems that sometimes the games can kind of be a popularity contest. It would be nice to have the best players in the league at their positions per league. Why shouldn’t they? By being the best at those positions, it should have earned them some rights as far as making it to the all star game.
No matter what though, the all star break is a great time for teams to kick back and relax a bit before the long last half of the season starts up again. If you do want your favorite player to make the game, make sure you vote, vote and vote again.

The owners of the MLB teams do more than write checks and own teams. Sometimes in their meetings they can literally discuss just about everything, from games running too long, the pluses and minuses of extra innings, to the economy. Well this year’s meetings seem to be focused on just that. The economy has been the talk in lots of business sectors. Why is the economy such a big deal with the MLB owners. Let’s just say that I wouldn’t hold your breath if you think that the players salaries are going to come down.
The biggest thing fans may want to know out of these meetings is that the teams will lower ticket prices. Now for some teams, the ones with new stadiums, this may not be the case. But it appears most teams may consider lowering ticket prices some to help draw in more fans next season.
There are lots of people in this country that love baseball. There are also lots of people out there that do not have the extra money to attend games. The best possible solution may be to lower prices or offer some special discount nights to games that tend to get lower attendances.
