The Cheap Seats

Posted on: May 26, 2010 by No Comments

A baseball game is a baseball game. No matter where you sit, the noises, the smells and the overall atmosphere during the game can be experienced no matter where your seats are. If you cannot afford the pricier seats, then consider getting the cheaper seats. Many people love sitting in the outfield and viewing the game. Kids especially can appreciate sitting just about anywhere just as long as they get to take in a game. Certainly for some the cheap seats may be not as much of a thrill as enjoying some box seats or sitting near the team dugouts. Sure these seats can be great and bring a different experience to watching the game, but so can the outfield seats.

So if you are short on funds and the park allows you to bring your own snacks (call ahead first), then consider heading to the game and grabbing some cheaper seats. Do not forget that some stadiums charge quite a bit to park though. So keep some extra money in your wallets just in case. You never know when the urge for some concession goodies may be something you end up splurging on. If that is the case, then the cheaper seats may be your best option any time you head to a game.

Singing The National Anthem

Posted on: May 25, 2010 by No Comments

Many of us from little league, through high school and beyond always used to stop before the game and sing the national anthem. In a country that seems to be changing, these MLB players would not have a place to play and the salaries they do if it were not for their freedoms here. It would also not be possible if it were not for the thousands of men and women that gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy currently. If everyone’s hearts are in it, then what a salute to a place where this can all happen freely.

So the next time you’re at a ball game, consider during the song what it means to be free and to be able to enjoy the things you love like watching someone play ball.

Team Colors

There is something about a baseball uniform that seems classy in a way. The uniforms could be much louder in style then they really are. But it seems to preserve more of a classic style and look to the game. The teams even today try and keep their team’s colors, logos and overall style of the uniforms very uniform.

The MLB offices surely have plenty to do with this. Approvals on any changes must go through them, and rightly so. You never know if some wayward owner jumped into the scene and could have his team wearing bright pick and purple to throw opponents off. Many people love the Yankees uniforms, do you have a favorite?

Respecting Umpires

Posted on: May 20, 2010 by No Comments

Bad calls are just as much a part of baseball as cracker jacks and baseball bats. If the umpires were robots or controlled by the forces in a booth on instant reply, mistakes still would be made. Take the behind the plate umpire. Probably one of the toughest positions in baseball as far as umpires go. Think about it, he has to call every pitch in the game for both sides, whether they are balls or strikes. He is bound to make a mistake now and then. Umpires like that go through years of training with the MLB. They even have their own union. Fans really get bent out of shape when a bad call is made though. I’m not sure many people really understand it in one sense; it is not like any of us are perfect. Yet the game will go on, bad calls or not. Certainly some bad calls can be tougher than others, especially if they are a game winning play. Either way, let’s show a little respect for the men ump’ing the games, they are trying! If you think you can do better, try some little league games and try it out, you may just be surprised at how hard it really is.
