Amateur Baseball

Posted on: July 22, 2010 by No Comments

There are many amateur baseball leagues in the United States. Many of these local leagues have age groups set for those that want to continue playing baseball well into their late 40′s. These leagues usually have at least 7 or 8 teams, and are usually played at a local ball park. There will more than likely be some sort of tryout for you to show your skills for teams to decide whether or not they want you on their team or not. At the tryouts pitchers will be given a chance to show off their pitching skills. Hitters will also be given the chance to hit some out of the park if they still can. For fielders making sure you field the ball cleanly will be the key to getting placed on a team or not.

When game time comes, the umpires are typically paid by the teams and their players. The players often also must pay for their own uniforms and gear if they need anything at all. So if you want to consider playing some amateur ball, do not expect that it will be cheap, in the same sense these leagues are not that costly to join either. They typically charge a small fee to help ensure the survival of the league and its members.

100 MPH or More

Posted on: July 17, 2010 by No Comments

How many pitchers in the MLB are capable of throwing 100mph or more? There are very few. In fact, many of these pitchers do not last as long as the ones that do not throw quite as hard. Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson were certainly the ones that could throw hard and played in the league many years doing so. Though pitchers like Greg Maddux pitched with a much weaker fast ball, yet he was still a great pitcher that lasted in the league many years.

There are some kids out there in the minors and in college, even high school that can throw 100 mph or more. These kids will no doubt be very high draft choices when the time comes next June. The key will be whether or not their arms were meant for that speed. Can they hold out until next June throwing the ball at such great speeds? Only time will tell, but certainly there are few in the league that can top 100 mph. Newcomer Steven Strasburg can, but how will he do over the long seasons to come.

Tailgating Before The Game

Posted on: July 16, 2010 by No Comments

If your stadium allows it, tailgating can be a great way to enjoy the game before it even starts. What a great way to kick back and enjoy some great food and company before you head into the stadium. This can be a good way to have more family time before game time, you can beat traffic jams that happen right before the game and root for your home team while in the parking lot. Some of the best food cooked out can be found while tailgating. Some people take this almost more seriously than they do anything else. They take pride in how great they can grill and cookout before the game.

Season Tickets

Posted on: July 9, 2010 by No Comments

If you have ever had season tickets, you know that when you get them they come in a book the size of an encyclopedia. There are so many games to go to. In a few towns, season tickets can become prize possessions. Nobody will give them up and some even get passed down from one generation to the next. Season tickets can be a huge responsibility though. There are tons of MLB games. And if you cannot go you better have some people that may want to be ready to take your tickets or a way to legally sell them. Some fans get really smart about this by splitting a seasons worth of tickets. This can be a great way to cut costs and cut the number of games you end up at.
