Winter Ball

As the cold weather sets in around most of the United States, baseball players looking to get in some extra play time are stuck with few options. One popular option is that players will head to the Caribbean to play ball. This can be a great place for minor leaguers or previously injured players to get some play time in. Also, players needing a new home like Carlos Delgado look to play here and show their stuff in hopes of finding a free agent contract with a team in 2010.
Lots of the players that head here to play have something they want to prove. MLB scouts are always on the lookout here for players that may be worthy enough to sign and join the clubs back in the US. On the other hand, top players usually use this time to rest and take a break. The MLB seasons can be very long and rough on players and their bodies.
This also can be a great economy booster for the area. Lots of times areas like this really rely on tourism to fuel their economy. Having some good big league players around certainly can help. So if you’re on vacation in the area, you never know what MLB star you may see.
