Sports Agents and Baseball

Posted on: November 14, 2009 by admin

Sports agents have really changed the way players sign contracts and get paid. One of the biggest agents by far in the world is Scott Boras. He is one of the MLB’s top sports agents. His client list is huge and the deals he gets for his clients are usually tough to beat. When it comes to getting money for draft picks, Boras usually sets the standard each draft year. This last year he had most of his top draft picks hold out for quite some time. While other agents had their clients signing on the dotted line for good money, Boras had his clients wait in hopes for much more money.

Are agents good for the game? Lots of people say no. No matter what you think, the profession has gained much more recognition over the past few years. With the huge sponsorship and endorsement contracts being signed by their clients, agents are making massive salaries.

Agents can make anywhere from 1% up to even as high as 30% on various contracts. WOW, amazing. For most people at those rates it would only take having one client to make a good living off of. Before you rush out to be an agent though, the profession is tough and extremely cut throat. You better know your stuff before entering this line of business.
