John Buck of the Royals Out for Herniated Disk
Posted on: June 1, 2009 by admin
The Kansas City Royals’ catcher John Buck was taken to the hospital a few days ago with a back injury. The starting catcher was preparing for a match with the Chicago Whitesocks when he injured his back and was taken to the hospital. He was put on a 15 day disabled list from play.
With Buck still in the hospital it is grim whether he will be ready in 15 days? Buck is apparently suffering from a herniated disk in the lower back. This means that the cushioning between the back vertebrae (bones) is bulging out. This bulging leads to pinching nerves and pain. Common remedies can be traction, rehab, or surgery. Noone wants surgery and can either of these options get Buck back in 15 days?
This injury will put catcher Miguel Olivio in a starting position. Further, the Royals have pulled Brayan Pena from Triple-A play to come back to the team and get on the roster due to this injury.
The latest news is that there ISN’T any news. With Buck batting .226 and 19 RBIs he has no prognosis from the doctors. They are still unsure at this point how bad the herniation is and whether it is going to need the surgery or not. With a 1 year sign on and just under a $3,000,000 sallary, buck waits in the hospital to see what comes. Olivo, who he has been sharing the catching plate with this year may get to step up and prove himself, while John Buck hopes for the best and an upcoming resign.
Those with Buck as their fantasy player may have lost a valuable player? One thing is for sure, Buck is out at least 15 days as the disabled list says but look for changes in this is the surgeon has to step in. So far it looks like the Royals are going to be without Buck for atleast the games against: Tampa Bay, Toronto, Cleaveland, Cincinnati and Arizona. He will be missed here for sure! I would bet we aren’t going to see Buck for the games against Arizona or St. Louis and would be lucky to have him against houston!
We wish John and other players right now who are injured luck in getting better.
