The Free Agent Craze
Posted on: November 17, 2009 by admin
It’s that time of the year again. Now that the season is over, teams and players turn to the free agent market. Those who are at the end of their contract could be moving on to new destinations. The free agent market has changed more in the last few decades with dollar amounts going higher and higher for players. It seems teams are also in the position to spend more than they used to.
One big thing is that players do not seem to care where they play as much as they used to. Players of old might have moved around some, but not like they do today. Players may sign a one or two year contract, keeping them in a certain city for a very short period of time. To the fans players also now seem more like a commodity. Who has time anymore to have a favorite player? Now most people will have a favorite team and whatever player gets them to a World Series is all that really matters. Of course it is also true that some players still can end up on the same team for a very long time, and for some fans this can be quite refreshing.
So if you’re a baseball fan, have fun trying to keep up with the ever changing free agent market this season.
